O.K. Parking is a graphic design studio, especially interested, fascinated and specialised in the field of interactive media design (websites, cdroms, etc.)
Since 2005 we are based in Arnhem, The Netherlands. During our Graphic Design study at the ArtEZ Arnhem Academy of Visual Arts we, Joost and William, had a 'magical' click when working together. Driven with the same passion for, and vision on graphic design it became a logical step to combine our talents.
We like the challenge to visualise information in a simple, transparant, yet powerful way. And we believe that the unique character of our clients and their wishes should be translated during the design process.
A part of our strength lies in the large number of advantages we offer as a small graphic designstudio. Next to our profession expertise, careful accompaniment (during the whole process from concept to product) and professional graphic design; we offer a rapid and flexible operationality for large or small projects. Our direct communication towards our clients and our personal contact are also very much appreciated.

Our autonomous Glitch-projects are interactive applications and audiovisual/interactive installations in which we do research in the field of chance and error. We use the results of this experimenting in our graphic design projects. The glitch-installations mostly consist out of technical devices such as televisions, computers, scanners, webcams.
Everything that seems to be perfect always has a bit of imperfection within it. The computer does break down, gives errors or freezes right on the moments you certainly don't want it. These moments reveal the true face of the computer. We're inspired by these errors and use the accidental disadvantages in our advantage. We label these accidents and errors as Glitches.
we translate and use the glitch-experimenting in our graphic design projects for clients. With little or no use of traditional graphic design elements, we have a new approach towards the conceptual and visualising design-proces. Doing so we achieve new concepts and visual styles. Technics become a painter's palette, with the advantage that technical development is continously growing and there always new ways in glitching.
William' graduate research thesis is about chance and error (glitch) and how it can be used and is being used in contemporary graphic design.
The website www.grafischarnhem.nl gives an overview of the work made by students of the Graphic Design department at the ArtEZ / Academy of Arts Arnhem. The site shows the work by students of all the courses, projects, graduation and more. It's an enormous database containing images which will grow in the next years.
Client ArtEZ:
'Transparant, usefull, effective and a strong concept. A website which dynamically uses the medium internet in a way internet should be.'

In 2004 we are asked to do along with a design-pitch for the VPRO Annual Report. We submit two proposals and both came in the final selection. The proposal shown here on our website is the one which finally won the pitch. And if it wasn't yet enough it won the award of Best Annual Report design 2003!!!
The VPRO (Dutch Broadcasting Company / www.vpro.nl) each year receives thousands of letters and e-mails from VPRO-members, TV-viewers, Radio-auditors, website-visitors and TV-Guide readers. Letters with admiration or with abomination.
The VPRO selected various letters to publish in the 2003 Annual Report. By means of these letters we conceptually approached the design with the theme 'Dear VPRO'.
The Annual Report in it's turn gives the reader the opportunity to react on these letters, and on the other VPRO content in the Annual Report. Anything in the Annual Report can be reacted on; there are empty forms which the reader can fill in and check boxes that can be checked. When the reader has read the whole annual report (and wrote all his questions, ideas and notes down in it) they can send it back to the VPRO. Doing so, an interaction arises between the reader and the VPRO.
Juryreport:
'The VPRO is a complex organisation and has a lot to tell in her annual report. A difficult task, but it worked out very good. The nice concept, good final editing, clever mixing-concept, well-considered graphic design and beautiful typography results in an excellent book. Just perfect!!'
A mental map of thoughts. A map based on memories that connect texts, persons, places and images to each other. In this way you get a sense of thoughts and a summery of interests.
Design is based on the graduation thesis by Joost van der Steen; 2i& & 250 msec.
Visual cognition and the use within the field of cartography.
For the Blend exhibition we made an audiovisual installation where your movements are turned into sounds. And everything you do is displayed on five monitors which we have manipulated so much that they interfere with eachother. Doing so they give errorized visuals of what is happening realtime.
We cooperated in designing the BLEND Guerilla magazine; the Arnhem edition. This magazine is published for promoting the Blendstore Arnhem. Bysides designing a couple of spreads we also had an exhibition at the Blendstore Arnhem.
As a result of our experimenting and error-creating with technical devices we get many of the most wonderful visuals.
We've selected a few of these glitch-visuals and printed them on large canvasses. Not only they are stunning images but also very inspiring (to us).
